PERRY: Dancing with the stock show could land Aurora in the pig pen

Say it with me, Aurora: “Howwwwwww-dEEEEEEEEEE!”

That’s how you’ll be expected to greet every stranger you see at Wal-Mart, DQ and the endless barbecue shacks that will certainly spring up along Aurora streets if the National Western Stock Show moves out here.

Yesireee indeedy, there’s little doubt in my mind that the millions of Pittsburgh and Cincinnati folks who come to Aurora to get a taste of the “real” West at the upcoming Grand Ol’ Gaylord  will be expectin’ us all to look and sound just like Minnie Pearl and Festus.

When I was kid, I can’t tell you how many times out-of-town visitors, usually from the East Coast, came to Denver shocked and disappointed to discover I rode a black Schwinn Stingray to school and not a black quarter horse.

Here y’all go, now. Quit saying “duuuuuude” and “what-ev-rrrrrr” and tell me how you’re “pert-en-near” as happy as a pig in mud about the city signing a deal with the Gaylord hotel extravaganza people to help them get a few hundred million dollars in tax breaks to build a 1,500-room whopper out in the middle of nowhere. It’s a got-durned good deal, really. Gaylord comes in and builds this super-hotel complex. The city and the state don’t make hardly a cent in taxes for decades. Instead, the new complex creates a bevy of construction jobs for a couple of years, and then they hire all of our kids and illegal immigrants to run the thing and keep our local fast-food economy humming along.

Now you won’t have to learn no heap o’ cowboy talk fer these folks. They won’t be leaving the Gaylord compound and will likely be lost if you find them chowin’ a bowl of pho on Havana Street. That’s the way these Gaylord places are designed. You fly in. You check in. You recreate, masticate and conferate right on site. Kind of like a land-locked cruise ship. Think of it as Aurora’s western themed Love Boat.

This thing will, however, no more put Aurora “on the map” than it did for Grapevine, Texas.

The party is going to be on a Saturday night , so any club goers, or underground hot spots that people might know of on Saturday nights in Denver , please get back to me!! My ideal location would be somewhere with all of the above mentioned, but it would be like a good hip hop DJ playing not Top 40 hip hop, or a place that just played good dance music like new wave, indie, brit pop, and maybe even a little techno.

I am moving to Colorado this coming August to attend college in Golden Colorado. I am from Texas and my favorite thing to do really is to go out dancin. Now I don’t mean techno or pop music night clubs , but a legit country western Dance Hall where you go two-steppin’ and such. I was just wondering if anyone knew about any in that area. It would be preferable if it were just an open dance no charge, but it’s not a requirement. It’s ok if it’s a bar or whatever as long as 18 year olds are allowed admittance.

LODO is awesome. A club called the Church is pretty cool, it used to be a church turned into a club. Mint is great place to get a bomb Mohito drink! Lodo’s bar is a pretty cool place as well. There’s a Coyote Ugly to check out as well. There is alot of awesome places to eat, drink, shop, socialize along the 16th street mall.
