Mayfield Village: Smoke detectors that saved a family

MAYFIELD -- It may be time to update the smoke detectors in your home. A Mayfield Village family owes its life to the latest technology in smoke detectors.

A wireless system that linked three detectors in the house that includes a voice command. They all went off Tuesday night and the Pavelka family was able to escape.

The dectectors were part of a federal grant that the fire department made available to residents.

The fire broke out in the family room. But a few months ago, they took advantage of the smoke detector program and bought three First Alert One Link detectors.
