Miller, featured in Mark Obmascik's book, "The Big Year: A Tale of Man, Nature and Fowl Obsession," and subsequently portrayed by Jack Black in the movie, "The Big Year," will be in Chico next week for the 13th annual Snow Goose Festival, Jan. 26-29.

Miller will be guest speaker for the sold out Gathering of Wings Banquet and a guest birder for several of the planned outings. He talked with the E-R Thursday from his home in Ohio, reporting that snow was coming down and visibility was "about a quarter mile."

Miller has been a life-long birder, getting his start as a child with his father. His love of birding became part of 2004 Obmascik's book, "The Big Year: A Tale of Man, Nature and Fowl Obsession," telling of Miller and two others who spent 1998 trying to best one man's previous record of spotting 721 species of birds in one year. The story was turned into a movie, "The Big Year," also starring Steve Martin and Luke Wilson.

Miller was a bird consultant during the filming, which was shot in numerous locations around the country.

He talked about his experiences, including a visit to Vancouver, B.C., where he and the crew ended up in a boat in the Pacific in some "pretty rugged weather." The crew, he recalled, spent some of the time "hanging over the back of the boat."

Three of Miller's Snow Goose Festival outings are sold out, but a class Jan.

A common alternative to Bifocal Lenses is usually Varifocal Lenses or as these are known, Progressive lenses. These are different to Bifocal Lenses as they provide a Gradient in prescription rather then two very different prescriptions next to each other. They are generally put down in the same format as Bifocal while using the highest Short Sightedness Prescription others in terms of the lens, gradually decreasing until it reaches the biggest Long Sighted Vision in the bottom of the lens. These are often offered rather than Bifocal Lenses. There are many advantages of this form of lens. Firstly, the wearer can the right gifts exact type of vision assuming they so choose by slanting their eye through a specific system of the lens. However, this is commonly not needed as the prescriptions they fit where the wearer will require them the most in so doing any manual focusing is far easier. Secondly, there is no "jumping "from images as you will find a gradient of prescription rather than sudden change as you can find in Bifocal Lenses. Since it is obvious on Bifocal Lenses in which the two different prescriptions tend to be, the Varifocal Lenses don't have this and thus really do not carry any associated stigmatism with this particular image, making the wearer well informed in themself. Nonetheless, there can be a lot of distortion or blurring as a consequence of very nature of this glasses; this does fluctuate however with different qualities of lens. This is effect is also worse when the prescription medications are higher, Clinicians have found the wearer can get used to this effect and thus encourage that it lens type is started early and thus when eyes worsen in later years, the eye is already useful to this effect. There can sometimes also be described as a problem in peripheral vision thus for some workers experts recommend that an Occupational Progressive Lens is commonly employed instead, also known being a Office Lens or Expanded Reading Lens.
