The Kawasaki GPZ 1000 RX (otherwise known as the GPZ1000RX (model designation – ZX1000A)) is a motorcycle launched by Kawasaki in 1986. It was reputed to be, at the time, ‘The Worlds Fastest Production Bike’. In the United States the bike was called the Ninja 1000R.

By today’s standards it isn’t that special; but 20 years ago it was. With a claimed 125 bhp on tap from the 997cc four-cylinder, 16 valve, twin cam engine it would propel the bike to around 167 MPH although the "official" top speed was reported as 155 MPH by Kawasaki test riders.

During launch tests at the Nurburgring circuit in Germany saw 10 of the bikes tested with only 3 actually making it around the track.

As a brand that continually merges style with technology, the latest Oakley models are usually more than just a re-style of an older pair of sunglasses. They tend to bring either a technology from a higher end model and incorporate it across the range, or come up with something completely new. Oakley also produce limited editions of current models each year, often branded by their own athletes or companies they have strong ties with.

One of the new models they have brought out for 2011 is the Fast Jacket. With this model, it seems they were looking to improve on the highly-popular Flak Jacket. The main addition is the use of Oakley’s Switchlock technology. Whilst it was possible to change lenses in the old Flak Jacket, it was a reasonably fiddly affair. The Fast Jacket remedied this by adding a ‘switch’ between the arm and the lens. It is molded into the shape of the frame, so it is barely distinguishable. With the glasses closed, you can simply flick the switch and the lens will pop out. The Fast Jacket does come with extra lenses, so this is a useful feature right out of the box.

Oakley have also moved from a factory-applied hydrophobic coating to a user-applied one. The hydrophobic coating is there to prevent water staying on the lens, as well minimize smudges caused by oil on the skin. While this move sounds like a step back, it actually offers a couple of advantages. Before, a coating was applied once during manufacture which would gradually wear off during the life of the sunglasses. With the new system, the coating can be re-applied as the wearer notices a drop in performance. The application kit (which Oakley refer to as the Nanoclear) can also be used on other Oakley models in the range too.
