Thirteen organisations get £1500 cash boost

THIRTEEN sports organisations have received a major cash boost.

Conwy-based organisations including swimming, football and outdoor clubs have won up to £1,500 each thanks to the council-backed community chest grant scheme.

Tracey Evans, chief executive officer at the Outdoor Partnership in Llanrwst, who received £1,500, said the money would provide a huge push for the club.

“It allows us to run our outdoor festival in September with up to 200 local people,” she said.

“Without the funding we wouldn’t be able to run the festival, which will include rowing, climbing and skiing.”

She added that the club, which offers outdoor courses, has helped to create 40 jobs for its members.

Elsewhere, Llandudno Junction Football Club received a £1,455 cash boost. The money will go towards forming junior teams for under-eights to sixteens.

Secretary Haydn Williams said: “We’re very pleased. It’s a great help for us in starting off our junior teams. The money will go towards a combination of equipment, pitch hire and league fees.

“It’s a huge undertaking to establish a junior team, so we’re very pleased.”

And the newly formed Llanddulas Rangers Junior Football Team secured £1,469.

Manager Colin Boyle said: “It’s fantastic for the kids. This will take the team onwards and upwards. We can step up training a bit more as we’ve been struggling with equipment and footballs as it’s a new team.”

Other projects to receive the grant funding include Swim Conwy in Llandudno, Conwy Bowling Club, Cymdeithas Ty Mawr youth club in Llanrwst, Penrhyn Bay football club, Llanrwst Cricket Club, Llewod Llannefydd, Glan Conwy Sport Association, Cwm Woodland Project in Llandudno, Cadifan in Ysbyty Ifan and Llanfair TH sports and recreation association.
