Greener Life, Greener World: Great Everyday Products for Women (and Men, too!)

Generally speaking, ladies probably use the most products, and put the most time, effort, and money into our appearance compared to men.  However, I see many ladies compromising their own health in order to look good, which is a shame.  If you become more informed about more “green” products, you’ll learn that you don’t have to sacrifice looking good in order to make more environmentally friendly purchases.  Within the last couple years, I decided to become more aware of which products I had been using.  Because I tend to care more about my appearance, and use a lot of products, I questioned what kind of affect the products I was using on a regular basis had on my body and the planet.  After realizing that a lot of the products I had been using contained ingredients derived from hard metals, petroleum, and a whole slew of other known carcinogens, I was surprised, and dismayed that I’d been exposing myself to these things on a daily basis for so many years.  I also considered that if these ingredients were bad for me, they must also be bad for the environment, especially considering they are washed down the drain every time we take a shower or wash our faces.  Even throwing away the empty bottles and containers from these products allows for the remnants inside to eventually be exposed to our water and soil.  If you are a lady like me, who is equally concerned about her affect on the environment and her body, then this article is for you!  And men, don’t be discouraged: I have some great suggestions here for you as well!

First of all, I would like to emphasize that many people are not aware of how closely their purchases are analyzed, or how influential our buying habits are in our consumer-driven world.  Surveys conducted by the Bureau of Labor Statistics provide a wealth of information on the buying habits of American consumers, their expenditures, as well as their income, characteristics, and whether they are single, or married.  These surveys are extremely influential to economic policy makers, businesses, academic researchers, and numerous other Federal agencies.  All things considered, our spending habits have a powerful affect on the world we live in, so when you make a more sustainable purchase for yourself and your family, always keep in mind that that also is a “vote” on your part for a greener, more sustainable world.
