Schwalbe Ultremo TT

Deep section wheels with carbon fiber have stimulated a renaissance of sorts in the tubular tires, these tires Schwalbe Ultremo TT did not appear in the catalog of the German tire maker a couple of years.

Like most bowels, the TTS Ultremo are expensive compared with narrow tires, and they are cumbersome to install and repair. On the other hand, carbon wheels for tubular tires are cheaper, lighter and easier to do than carbon or carbon / aluminum tire rims, which need a hook to keep the pearl. So you could save on your wheels and tires against time by choosing global bathtubs.

What about saving time?Tubular fans will tell you that bathtubs are faster. Traditionally, they have always been. Clinchers are faster and faster, though, and I have yet to test a tire that rolls a lot better tire Continental GP Supersonic with a latex inner tube, weighing less than 150g by itself and in 200g with the tube.

This does not mean that these tires do not exist. But I was impressed by entry-level to mid-range tube that come with butyl inner tubes sewn inside. More trouble than the best clinchers - and less speed.

You can get hose with latex tubes inside too, as these Ultremos (and to be fair, many others). A pipe lighter, more flexible elastic complete boxes that best tires were rolling as a result of their more fine-thread frame (ie a high TPI or threads per inch count).

These high-TPI, latex tubular innered feel faster and smoother than even the best clinchers.I guess the sides of the tire are not partitioned by some as a tire rim, so as a tire lighter, more flexible sidewalls roll better than a tire with stiff sidewalls, so should a tubular roll better that a tire.

I'm not going to solve the "who is the fastest - Bath or tire" debate in a review. I would say that these tires Ultremo TT, as well other baths are up there with the best clinchers. In fact, I realized quickly on them repeatedly that I have even Conti Supersonics.

The Triathlon EVO CS is a new tubular tire designed for the triathlon athlete! The butyl inner tube retains a set pressure for a long time so you can fill your bike up the day before your race and be confident that you won't have lost pressure by the time you finish the swim the next morning. The tread has the same great low rolling resistance you've come to expect from Vittoria tubulars. I was drawn to the tire for the durability especially against flat protection. Put it on the rear wheel for my TT setup.

After my first event on the wheel (Ironman distance, 112 miles), the tread separated from the sidewall just enough to let a small amount of air out of the tire. After coming back to my bike after the event, the tire was flat.

Unless my product was flawed, until Vittoria makes this tire more robust with regard to craftsman ship and using the new materials in the "Triathlon Evo" I would ride Corsa Evo or another brand.

Strengths: The butyl lining does retain air as advertised. No latex material as in other tubulars that lose a PSI/hr or whatever the agreed rate is.

The tread is strong, and on the center of the tire, there is at least a decent amount of flat protection.

Also, tire stretches out well during installation and not difficult to get centered on tire as other brands.

Weaknesses: After flatting for the third time on this tire it's time for a review. One may ask why I kept riding it after flatting previously but the answer is that I received several as a gift. The problem with the tire goes hand in hand with its strengths. It is extremely light and supple, and when held before gluing up and mounting on the wheel you can feel how flimsy it is. In order to achieve the low weight and rolling resistance Vittoria basically skipped out on adding any material to the sidewalls. This leaves the tire extremely vulnerable to punctures during cornering or on anything but perfect roads.
