Discover Pass raises $2.9 million in first six weeks of sales
During the first six weeks of sales, the new Discover Pass raised $2,914,434 in revenue to support state parks and other public recreation lands in Washington.
Of that total, $1,008,469 in pass sales during July were reported at state parks and another $1,905,965 were made through the Washington Interactive Licensing Database (WILD) managed by Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) through a private business vendor.
Don Hoch, Washington State Parks director, said those sales are critical to the future of state parks, which must now rely on user fees and donations to cover costs.WDFW and the State Department of Natural Resources also receive a percentage of the cost to maintain public access to lands they manage.
"Public support was essential that we begin this new program aimed at preserving public access to recreational land," said Hoch. "It is heartening to see that the citizens of Washington are ready to help keep their land open and recreation operations. And we are optimistic that sales will continue to grow to help fund our land recreation of the state."
WDFW Director Phil Anderson said sales figures over the coming months will provide a good indication of public support for the Discovery Pass and the future of state parks and other public lands.
"It's hard to say much more than a month of data," said Anderson. "The public is still learning about this program and the outlets will significantly increase the condition of the vehicle licensing offices start selling the Discovery Pass".
In accordance with the legislation approved earlier this year, the Discovery Pass is now required for access to recreational lands managed by the State Parks and Recreation Commission, DNR and WDFW.
The Discover Pass sells for $ 30 per year ($ 10 a day) and provides access to nearly 7 million acres of state recreation, including parks, trails, wildlife and natural areas and water access sites. Transaction fees and merchant apply to purchases by nearly 600 WILD system vendors and sales online and by phone.

Washington State Contractors License | Contractors in Phoenix ...
I am looking to become a small general contractor in Washington State. What is the best kind of insurance to buy and what do I REALLY need. Most basic is 1 mil 2 mil but what are the other things Insurance companies forget to offer if you do not ask them direct. We will do most concrete foundations – but a licensing as a general to sub out work for excavating, saw cutting etc.
It’s going to be EXPENSIVE if you sub out more than 25% of the work. It matters a lot if you’re doing straight residential, or commercial. You might need a reporting form builders risk, commercial auto, and inland marine policies. You’ll likely need workers comp in addition to your general liability.
It’s going to be based on your payrolls for each class, including subbed out work, and your gross receipts. If your subs do NOT give you a certificate of insurance proving THEY have GL and WC, they will be treated as employees when your policy gets audited.
Expect to shell out at LEAST $10,000 to get the initial policies in place, but probably a lot more.
Talk to a local, independent agent or two (or three) regarding quotes. I believe Washington is a monopolistic state for WC, so you’ll have to buy that from the state.
