Two local artists are winners in the Halpert Biennial’11, a national, juried, two-dimensional art competition and exhibition designed to recognize new works by emerging and established artists.
Justin R. Webb of Elk Park took juror’s first choice with his oil on canvas, “Untitled Bonaparte.”
Dorothy Griffith of Linville took juror’s second choice with her photograph, “Dove 1/9 and Robin 1/9.”
The exhibition is currently on view in the Turchin Center in Boone until Dec. 3.
The Yadkin Cultural Arts Center has announced the winners of its Juried Show’s two-dimensional (2-D) and three-dimensional (3-D) categories. Cash awards of $500 went to first-place winners, $300 to second-place winners and $200 to third-place winners.
Awards in the 2-D category went to the following:
Janelle Dilizio of Winston-Salem, first place, for her charcoal drawing “Lost in Thought.”
Patty Bailey Smith, resident Cultural Center artist, second place, for her large-format oil portrait “Andrew.”
Val Oberle of Pilot Mountain, third place, for her abstract “Accidental Wave.”
Awards in the 3-D category went to the following:
Brenda Robbins of Valdese, first place, for her wood and ceramic figure “Cedar Dancer.”
Ray Travis of Advance, second place, for his hand-forged raku pottery piece “Rooster with Attitude.”
Karen Fridy of Lewisville, third place, for her beaded fabric vase “Origin.”
The juried show was open to all resident artists of North Carolina 18 or older. The exhibit runs through Sept. 9.
